COMEDY WRITING
Nico Tatarowicz has written and co-written for a veritable glittering array of top-tier comedy talent in a career spanning over 20 years. Recent broadcast credits include contributing material for the Dictionary Corner section of 8 out of 10 cats, work on the third series of Last One Laughing and a host of topical sketches for the reboot of Spitting Image on Britbox.
His output has included gag writing for panel show glitterati like Jimmy Carr, Jason Manford and Alan Carr as well as script work for high-profile comedy events such as The O2 Comedy Gala and the British Comedy Awards.
Sketch shows formed the meaty basis for Nico’s early writing career, then writing in a partnership with David Cadji-Newby, notably the pair wrote large chunks of all three BBC1 series of (BAFTA winning) The Armstrong and Miller Show and Channel 4’s Kevin Bishop show. Nico branched out on his own and writing on various shows like School of Comedy and Channel 4’s highly acclaimed Very Important People in which he also appeared as Liam Gallagher.
As a day-rate gag/script-writing hired gun he has helped inject funny into such shows as The Kumars and Worlds Craziest Fools with Mr T. However recent years have found him spending much more time working on story-telling, narrative-based projects and humour books.
Nico contributed a whopping 6 stories across 4 series of Award Winning Dave show Crackanory, seeing his words brought to life by Paul Whitehouse, Harry Enfield, Vic Reeves and Carrie Fisher amongst others.
In 2019 Nico wrote an episode of ‘Urban Myths’ for Sky Arts which starred long-time collaborator Morgana Robinson as Tracey Emin in her ‘bed’ period. The project was shot and edited but sadly blocked by Emins lawyers. In the same year he was a key part of the writing team for the BAFTA winning 3rd series of BBC3 cult hit Murder In Successville, in which he appears on screen as hapless ‘Sid Lowecroft’. He also co-wrote Tom Davis comedy spy vehicle Action Team for ITV2, (now on Amazon).
In Morgana Robinson’s The Agency, viewers were treated to a 30 minute sitcom episode written by Nico, based around Robinsons much loved impression of TV’s Natalie Cassidy. He also contributed all of the Natalie Cassidy character sketch material to the same series, and writes for Morgana whenever ‘Nat’ appears on 8 out of 10 Cats.
Nico is an actor ‘sometimes’ and has picked up performing credits in, amongst other projects Murder In Successville, Very Important People, The Warm Up Guy, Crackanory, Nigel Cole’s Brit-Flick Made in Dagenham and a sketch-show pilot shown as Channel 4’s Comedy Lab season, entitled Happy Finish. His Liam and Noel Gallagher impressions are the stuff of cult-youtube legend. The same goes for some of the many sketches he has written or starred in for the online comedy platform @contertertainmenttv, most notably the infamous ‘Kebab sketch’, that continues to haunt all that see him in it.
Outside the telly comedy world, Nico has been producing and fronting a podcast about the ups and downs of freelance life for over three years now. It is called Finding Nico and charts his progress growing other projects in the hope of finding new meaningful ways to survive in a changing media landscape.
Nico is passionate about being active in Brighton’s grass roots music scene, as a promoter, musician tour manager and mentor of emerging artists under the name Music Dad (@itsmusicdad on Instagram). This aligns with what he sees as his ‘mature era’ mission in life which is to mix his own continuing creative ambitions with being a source of support, inspiration and guidance for the next generations of young creative people
